When I work with church planters it seems they want to talk about the vision that God’s given them to plant a church.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
The gospel is the good news of salvation through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross as the sacrifice for sin. His death canceled “the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross” (Col 2:14).
The essence of any local church is seen as being the people of God on mission. God has sent His people to complete His mission by making disciples who make disciples!
Every Christian is a missionary – sent by Jesus with the message of the cross in community with other Christians to those in the cultures around them.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to stay with my friend Steve Ogne in Southern California. We enjoyed dinner and watching football.
And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed. (Matthew 4:19-20)
