Advent is a wonderful season of the year. The word actually means “the arrival” and is particularly linked to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. This is known as the first advent. After Jesus’ death and resurrection, Christians around the world are anticipating the second advent – the second coming of Christ. Our family has celebrated Advent since our children were very young. My wife created an advent tree and each day the children would hang an ornament on the tree after reading several verses of Scripture and answering a few questions regarding Christ’s arrival. Since we have two children, our son would hang the ornament on the odd days and our daughter would hang the ornament on the even days. It was a special time of preparation for our celebration of Jesus’ birth.
One of the things that I love about this half-day of prayer together is that praises and prayer requests are gathered from all of our OC teams worldwide.
Whether in the physical world of farming, or in the spiritual dimension of harvesting — it is the Lord of the Harvest who causes the growth.
Pray to God and ask Him to show compassion as He did on the great city of Nineveh (Jonah 4:11).
