Missional activity must begin where people live.
Missionaries need to cross cultural and geographical barriers to make disciples of all nations. However, every believer needs to start being a missionary in their own neighborhood. “Being missional is not first about ministering among those we do not know, but living authentically among those we do know.” (Shaped By God’s Heart)
The church I planted in Southern California had a vision for reaching every neighborhood with the Gospel!
We envision doing our part to bring the love of Christ to every neighborhood of Castaic and the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond in order to establish an active presence of Christ’s Church in our community!
After reading Wolfgang Simson’s Houses that Change the World, I caught a vision for “a church within walking distance of every person on earth the body of Christ, as a ‘shop-window for God’ in the neighbourhood of every person on the planet.”
Believers everywhere need to catch this vision:
Nothing short of the very presence of the living Christ in every neighbourhood and village of every corner of the nation. We therefore need to initiate and promote church-planting movements that initiate and promote other church-planting movements, until there is no space left for anyone to misunderstand, ignore or even escape the presence of Jesus in the form that He has chosen to take on earth—the local church. – Wolfgang Simson (Houses that Change the World)
Missional Movements must start and advance through relational networks in local neighborhoods.
Coaching Questions:
How will you engage relationally with your neighbors?
How can you bring the love of Jesus to people on your street?
Who can join you as missionaries in your neighborhood?
Today’s Missional Challenge
