[featured_image]Advent is a wonderful season of the year. The word actually means “the arrival” and is particularly linked to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.
This is known as the first advent. After Jesus’ death and resurrection, Christians around the world are anticipating the second advent – the second coming of Christ. Our family has celebrated Advent since our children were very young. My wife created an advent tree and each day the children would hang an ornament on the tree after reading several verses of Scripture and answering a few questions regarding Christ’s arrival. Since we have two children, our son would hang the ornament on the odd days and our daughter would hang the ornament on the even days. It was a special time of preparation for our celebration of Jesus’ birth.
During the month of December, we invite you to join us in the celebration of Advent by reading a few verses, answering a few questions, and reflecting on the significance of Christ’s birth.
Family Advent: Day 1 – The Gift of Love
Zechariah and Elizabeth (Read Luke 1:5-25)
“In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly. But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old.” (vv 5-7)
1. What did the angel tell Zechariah?
2. What kind of man was Zechariah?
