Lake Hills Community Church: 20 Years Ago

Lake Hills Community Church in Castaic, CA had it’s grand opening worship celebration on November 4, 1990. As we prepared for a healthy launch, here’s our vision statement that we shared with everyone we could:

A VISION FOR A NEW CHURCH HAS COME TO CASTAIC! The population of Castaic is about 8,000 people, but that will change soon. The community is on the brink of a population explosion. Projections call for 10,000 new homes which are now in various stages of development. With the completion of these homes, the population is likely to rise above 35,000 people. “The harvest is plentiful…”
The Western District of the Missionary Church and Grace Community Church have seen the vast spiritual needs of such a community and have committed to the planting of a new church — LAKE HILLS COMMUNITY CHURCH. It is a church whose purpose is designed to meet the needs of the community through the person of Jesus Christ.

Under the direction of Bill Malick, Church Planting Director for the Missionary Church Western District, and Jim George, Associate Pastor of Grace Community Church, the foundation has been laid for this exciting new church start. Beginning with initial demographic research in the Fall of 1988, the necessary steps were taken which led to the calling of Dave DeVries to be the church planter and pastor in June, 1990.

Dave DeVries is a recent graduate of The Master’s Seminary and has ministered as the Assistant Pastor at New Hope Community Church in Newhall for the past two years. He has also worked at The Master’s College in the Student Life Department as a Resident Director. Dave’s ministry has a strong commitment to evangelism and discipleship in the context of a local church. This is the same emphasis needed in the planting of a new church.

Dave and his wife, Deanne, and their son, Douglas, have recently purchased a home in Castaic and are excited about this new ministry to which God has called them. They have a vision to see a church in Castaic that exalts the person of Jesus Christ by making more and better disciples of Christ.

LAKE HILLS COMMUNITY CHURCH is a church with a purpose and is committed to the following distinctives:

  • Practical Biblical Exposition of the Word
  • Plurality of Godly Leadership
  • Outreach Vision for the Un-Churched
  • Training of Individuals in Lifestyle Evangelism
  • Development and Exercise of Spiritual Gifts

We invite our prayers and interest as this new church begins. If you would desire to be part of this church, or if you have friends, relatives or acquaintances living in the Castaic area, please contact Dave DeVries.

“To Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” – Ephesians 3:21
