He speaks to the need for followers of Jesus to Become Harvest Conscious.

If Jesus has one concern for our world today, it is the same concern He had when He was on earth – that the harvest be reaped. Jesus realized that his disciples had not yet caught the harvest version; they were often more concerned about themselves than about reaching the harvest. Therefore, they failed to see from Christ’s perspective the people they met. (p. 180)

Isn’t that so easy to do? I find myself challenged by his words – “they were often more concerned about themselves than about reaching the harvest.” I have to confess that this describes me more often that I wish. I so want to become more harvest conscious than me conscious.

Deuwel continues,

Jesus saw people as they were, and loved them. His love was a reaching love that demonstrated His whole redemptive mission to earth. Moved by the needs of hurting people, Jesus reached out to them. Look at Jesus and learn how He desires for your love to reach out to others. (p. 180)

As followers of Jesus, we must see people as Jesus sees them – and love them!

See the Harvest!

Barbers and hairdressers are hair-conscious. As they look at people, the first thing they notice is the hair. Dentists are tooth-counscious. The moment they see a person, they focus on their teeth. Christians should be people-conscious, need conscious, harvest conscious. Jesus was.

Harvest is always here with us if we have eyes to see. Jesus pointed to the Samaritan people walking toward them and said, “I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest” (John 4:35). The Samaritans were just one of earth’s harvest fields. Jesus was pleading, “See people as harvest! Become harvest conscious. Focus your interest on spiritual harvest potential of all earth’s peoples.” (p. 181)

Open your eyes!
See people.
See needs.
See them as harvest.

“Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.” (Matthew 9:35 NASB)
