Pastor Jerry Mitchell has been faithfully preaching God’s Word at Crossroads Bible Church for the past 30 years. As he preaches each week, he calls the congregation to hear what the Lord is saying to them through the Scriptures.

For the past several years, our family has sat down together to evaluate our past year and to look ahead to the new year (typically at the end of December)

As it has been said, “If we always do what we’ve always done, we’ll always get what we’ve always gotten.” Building movements that transform America requires a different kind of activity than before.

I love training coaches. This week I’m training coaches in Bellevue, WA (near Seattle) with Creative Results Management. When I attended the CORE Coaching Skills Certificate Program (CCSCP), I was impressed by the high interactivity of this 60-hour program.

Unfortunately, seminary didn’t prepare me for the task of developing and leading leaders.

I was asked to serve on the Search Committee at our church as we pursue hiring a new college ministry director. As we received resumes, we began to evaluate how each candidate matched the competencies we believed were required to serve well in this role.

“Who we are is how we coach.”

Recently a friend asked me to explain my understanding of leadership. I reflected on a variety of definitions that I’ve heard over the years. At its essence, I understand that leadership is influence. Most leaders would agree – and yet there is more to leading than just influencing.

“The couriers went out impelled by the king’s command while the decree was issued in Susa the capital; and while the King and Haman sat down to drink, the city of Susa was in confusion.”

As 2011 begins, I’ve reflected on some of the highlights of this past year. Hear are 12 months of praise to my God!
